Wirral man jailed after threatening to kill his parents

Liverpool Crown Court

His mum told him to go to bed but he punched her hard in the face and kicked her as she slumped on to a sofa.

She later said it hurt so much she thought he had split her head open.

She called police and Matthews took the saw from their garage and told his parents he would kill them when he got out of “where he was going”.

Gerald Pachter, mitigating, said: “He is disgusted and ashamed. He recognises his parents are good people. His problem is alcohol.”

He said Matthews, adopted as a baby, had no intention of using the saw.

Matthews admitted assault by beating, causing actual bodily harm and making threats to kill. He was jailed for 16 months and given a restraining order which means he cannot be within 100m of his parents.
