Tranmere Rovers fans give Poppy Appeal a £1300 boost

BIRKENHEAD’S Royal British Legion branch had their Poppy Appeal boosted with a cheque from Tranmere Rovers FC.

Players from the club last week handed over a cheque for £1,300.

The money was donated by fans before the match against Brighton and Hove Albion and at half time. The collection was carried out by the TA and volunteers from Birkenhead Royal British Legion.

Julie Dove, Poppy Appeal co-ordinator for Cheshire and Wirral, said: “This is a great start for the Poppy Appeal. “Tranmere Rovers fans are notoriously generous and always offer their unequivocal support of the appeal to support our troops who are fighting now in Afghanistan.

“They will need our support for many years to come and we can only offer our broad range of services to them if the Poppy Appeal remains as strong and successful as ever.”

Mick Horton, chief executive of Tranmere Rovers, said: “This is a record collection at Prenton Park and we are delighted that Tranmere fans have given so generously.”
