Person of the year: Pauline Fielding

Pauline Fielding

Pauline Fielding, of Heswall, suffered a terrible loss when her 18-year-old son Andrew was killed in 1994 by a driver who caused a crash, never stopped and was never traced.

Following his death, she started a North West group for the charity Roadpeace to support bereaved and injured   victims of road crashes and to raise awareness of road safety.

It provides a national helpline for road victims - 0845 4500 355 - a lifeline offering vital   information and support Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

This service is backed up by publications written from the victims' perspective and practical   experience of hundreds of cases - on investigations, prosecutions and civil claims.

Pauline said: “I’m really pleased I have been given this award because it’s all publicity for our   charity which campaigns for justice, road safety and road risk reduction.

“The more awareness raised about road safety the better.

“The whole aim of the charity is make people aware of the dangers on our roads and also to  support victims.

“We have a memorial day twice a year to remember those who have gone and also to highlight  our message.

“We want to try and prevent other people from becoming victims.”
