Sports Champion: Upton football club

Upton Football Club is recognised by many as a pillar of the community.

The club, which gives young people the opportunity to develop within a safe environment, was nominated as best sports team in Your Champions 2009 by club secretary Steve Kell, of Meols.

The club was founded in 1994 and provides football training for boys and girls of all abilities from aged six onwards. It has over 300 members including 40 club officials.

After receiving the news that they’d scooped the award, Club secretary Steve Kell, of Meols said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won this award because the football team makes such a positive contribution to developing community spirit within Upton and the surrounding areas.

“Upton FC provides great opportunities for players and helps to improve their fitness.

“We are very proud of ourselves and this award has heightened this feeling.”
