Duke of Westminster visits Wirral Autistic Society’s building project
THE Duke of Westminster was in Wirral on Friday to check on progress at the construction of Wirral Autistic Society’s (WAS) new Respite Centre.
As patron of WAS, the Duke launched the appeal to source funding for the £1.3million project in February last year.
So far, £800,000 has been raised, with the building due for completion in June 2010.
The centre will cater for up to six people with autism, and provide a break for families from the daily pressures involved in caring.
At present, WAS can provide respite for only one person at a time.
The Duke of Westminster said: “There is a huge demand for respite facilities to relieve pressure on parents, brothers, sisters who live with day to day problems that arise from caring for people with autism.”
