Fountain Street in £1m Government cash redevelopment

Wirral

The Green Party’s Pat Cleary campaigned on residents’ behalf.

He said: “It sounds like good news and the residents will be pleased that work is likely to start soon.

“It’s taken a long time and they’ve put up with a lot, but hopefully this funding will enable things to really get going and that could really turn things around for this particular area.

“The lesson the council has got to learn if it’s going to engage in this type of demolition, is that it’s got to be far more sensitive about how it goes about it.

“You’ve got to get straight on with the renewal work

“It’s not acceptable for stuff to get knocked down and left for years.”

Cllr George Davies, Wirral Council Cabinet Member for housing and community safety, said: “We’ve worked hard to get to this point so we’re obviously delighted to get the funding. “This was always a landmark development for the Tranmere area, but in the current economic climate it is even more significant and I can’t wait for the residents to finally see work getting started.”

Of the 56 new houses, 20 will come under the shared equity scheme, HomeBuy Direct.
