The boy, who lives in Birkenhead, then left the station and was subsequently tracked using CCTV, before his arrest the following evening.
At interview, “he said sorry for the way he conducted himself, when shown CCTV”, Stephen McPeake said.
In an entirely separate incident, the boy also pleaded guilty to handling a stolen Xbox games console, on August 20 this year.
The console and six games were stolen a day earlier from a dwelling, but, in a remarkable coincidence, the defendant and several older boys were spotted by the original owner trying to sell it in Gamestation, who stormed into the shop demanding the return of their property.
There was no suggestion the 12-year-old was involved in the original theft.
Imposing a six month supervision order, plus £50 compensation and £50 costs, chairman of the bench Stephen Fletcher said: “Let’s see you as one of the great Liverpool players in ten years’ time, rather than in custody.”
