Cycle storage facilities to be installed at nine train stations on the Wirral line

CYCLE storage facilities are being installed at nine train stations on the Wirral line.

Merseyrail has been awarded £1m from Cycling England to become a national “Cycling Demonstration Train Operator”.

The money will be spent on secure storage facilities for bicycles at 18 stations in Merseyside.

The Wirral stations to benefit are Birkenhead Central, Green Lane, Rock Ferry, Bebington, Port Sunlight, Spital, Bromborough, Eastham Rake and Hooton.

The facilities will be in place by late 2010.

Councillor Mark Dowd, chair of Merseytravel, said: “This is a tremendous boost for the cyclists that use our stations and we hope that it will encourage more people away from their cars and onto their bikes.”
