Campaign to reduce teenage pregnancies in Wirral

A CAMPAIGN has been launched to reduce teenage pregnancies in Wirral.

Wirral Council and NHS Wirral have teamed up for “Be Yourself”, which aims to educate young people about contraception and lifestyle choices.

Organisers say there will be a strong emphasis on the importance of not being forced into a sexual relationship through peer pressure or alcohol.

The campaign, which will be promoted through advertising in schools and colleges, on buses and trains and on Facebook, will also highlight the importance of protecting against sexually transmitted diseases, as well as promoting the contraception available to young people.

Marie Armitage, joint director of public health for Wirral, said “On average, six young women become pregnant each week in Wirral. For the majority this is not a positive decision but an unfortunate mistake which could have been prevented.”
