TRANSPORT enthusiasts are being invited to step back in time at Birkenhead Park.
Organisers hope 20,000 people will visit this weekend to see 120 vintage cars, commercial vehicles and motorcycles, which are going on display as part of “Transport through the Ages”.
The festival, organised by Birkenhead Lions and Wirral Transport Museum, takes place on Saturday and Sunday (Sep 19 and 20) after a successful first run last year.
The main attractions include seven full-sized Showmen’s traction engines, a 1908 Stanley steam-driven car and a Victorian steam-driven “Galloper” fairground ride.
There will also be a brass band, jazz bands, a reggae band, choirs, entertainers and charity stalls.
Organiser Ken Fretwell said: “The event promises to be even better than last year.”
It is backed by Wirral Council, Merseytravel and Merseyrail.
A free bus will run from Liverpool to Birkenhead on Sunday, starting from Exchange Street East at 10am and at 15-minute intervals until 3.30pm. There will also be a regular vintage tram/bus service from Woodside Ferry Terminal via Wirral Transport Museum to Birkenhead Park.
