Queues for school uniforms stretch the Birkenhead high street

THE last time Birkenhead saw a queue like this was when Paul O’Grady was in town!

But as the first day of September arrived, eager parents who still didn’t have their child’s school uniform joined a growing line of hundreds of others at Wirral Uniform Centre.

Richard Birks, of Tranmere, was shopping for his 14-year-old twins’ uniform for St John Plessington Catholic College.

He said: “I actually came last week for their uniforms but had to come back for their blazers.

“The problem is, you can’t get the blazers anywhere else as they’ve got to be embroidered properly.”

Julie Lloyd, of Wallasey, was buying her 14-year-old daughter’s Wallasey School uniform.

She said: “I don’t want to get her uniform too early in the holidays because she’s at the age where she’s growing quickly.

“This line is ridiculous but we really don’t have a choice but to wait for as long as it takes.”
