A brick is laid after years of fundraising
AFTER years of fundraising, the first brick of Ashville Lodge’s extension has finally been laid.
The lodge in Birkenhead, the base for Wirral Society of the Blind and Partially Sighted, gets around 100 visitors a week and needs to be extended so more facilities can be offered to more people.
The group set out to raise £140,000 to build this extension and have now got enough money to start the building work.
The work is hoped to be complete by Christmas and the lodge is hoping it can keep raising money between now and then to buy equipment for the inside of the new building.
Ashville Lodge already provides ICT training, specialist equipment, arts and crafts and an audio library as well as advice, friendship, support and opportunities for those with sight problems.
Lynne Sedgewick, development and fundraising officer at Ashville Lodge, said: “We are the only organisation in Wirral offering this support and we want to make sure we have the best and most accessible facilities available.
