A quirky treat for Wirral diners

CHRIS Barbakis brought a gourmet touch to last week’s Wirral Chefs Shine evening at Paesano restaurant – but will it be enough to win the title?

The 28-year-old chef put a lot of preparation into his menu, which diners found unusual but delicious.

For starters Chris served a new season potato, sweetcorn espuma and basil and pea shoots.

The main course included supreme of chicken, mint and yoghurt and corn couscous.

For dessert, diners enjoyed stone fruits, greengage, barquete, damson jelly, apricot sorbet and plum soup.

Martin Preston, 33, of Eastham, who was dining with his family called Chris’s menu “delicious”.

He said: “As well as the main courses, all the trimmings were provided too.

“The waiters served us loads of bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar which was very nice.

“I wasn’t too sure about the starter because just having a potato on it’s own with a bit of sauce is very unusual, but saying that I still really enjoyed it.
