FUNDRAISER Helen Latham went that extra mile to boost the Hoylake Cottage Day Care Appeal – 300 of them to be precise!
The centre’s fundraising director, Helen was among five women who made the gruelling journey from London to Paris last week.
Helen and her team – including Donna Griffiths, Sue Haddad, Sally Cole and Jane Lynch – were in a group of 72 cyclists, all making the trip to raise funds for their chosen good cause. Their challenge got off to a tough start when changes to ferry sailings meant a last minute diversion from Dover to Folkestone – and an extra 25km to cycle.
But it was all worth it when they made it to the finish line at the Eiffel Tower with £4,000 in donations.
All money raised will go towards the appeal, which aims to raise £1.5m to pay for a state-of-the-art-day centre on the site of the existing 100-year-old former cottage hospital.
Helen said: “It was a brilliant achievement for us all and I’m delighted we have raised so much money through our generous supporters.
“It was like running a marathon each day – but then that’s what a challenge is all about, stretching yourself to achieve something worthwhile.”
