Wirral marks National Alzheimer’s Awareness week with information and activity events

INFORMATION and activity events are taking place across Wirral this week to mark Alzheimer’s Awareness Week.

The aim of the week, which runs until July 11, is to raise awareness and give support to those who have dementia.

The programme includes:

Today, July 8: Strawberry tea from 2-4pm at Christ Church, Kings Road, Higher Bebington.

Thursday, July 9: Drop-in memory cafe at the Ravenscroft Pub, Heswall, from 2-4pm

Saturday, July 11: Fundraising and awareness event in Morrison’s, West Kirby from 9 to 5pm.

Wirral has a dedicated dementia outreach team, based in Wallasey, which covers the whole of Wirral.

NHS Wirral recently provided £968,000 towards a new facility at the Devonshire Resource Centre in Birkenhead – through Age Concern – which will provide a day and outreach service for younger people with dementia.

Sue Newnes, who manages the Wirral branch of The Alzheimer’s Society, said: “Volunteers will support the outreach workers as the scheme spreads across Wirral.”
