Car submerges at New Brighton beach
IT COULD have been a relaxing day at the beach on a sweltering summer’s day.
But for this unlucky motorist it was a case of trying – and failing – to turn back the tide.
The River Mersey crept up on this silver Mitsubishi Warrior as its owner tried desperately to shift it from the sands.
But the vehicle became stuck fast at New Brighton beach just before 5pm yesterday.
The three male occupants tried everything to move the car, but eventually resorted to clearing out their possessions as the water rolled in.
The car was eventually rescued with the help of a tractor from the nearby yacht club. Onlooker Ian Wallace, 45, said: "Hundreds of people gathered around to try and help.
"At first they tried to move the car, but when the tide came in, it was just a salvage job."
