Campaign to help Auschwitz death camp survivor

Olwen, 91, his wife of more than 50 years suffered a series of strokes trying to take care of her husband but allowed him to go into a care home after realising the strain was too much.

Her son said: “I’m glad because she was going to become very ill herself.

“But the NHS has done a medical assessment and it say that my father isn’t entitled to financial help for nursing.

“But he’s not in there by choice unfortunately, it’s just become too difficult to manage him.”

The situation has infuriated Mr Moran.

The Crosby based campaigner has strong ties with the Dodd family having read about the ex prisoner of war in the Daily Post.

In 1995 he cycled from Crosby to Auschwitz and was due to meet Mr Dodd at the former concentration camp as the finale of a £30,000 money-spinner. Mr Dodd fell ill and was unable to make the journey out to Poland but the family have remained in touch ever since.

He said: “When is this country going to look out for people like Arthur Dodd? There needs to be a change.”
