2009 Wirral Coastal Walk is days away

THE 2009 Wirral Coastal Walk is just days away.

This weekend thousands of people will flock to Wirral’s coastline for a 15-mile walk to raise money for loved ones and worthy causes.

Last year saw the biggest ever coastal walk in its 22-year-history as over 5,000 people took part raising a colossal amount of money through sponsorship and donations.

It is hoped this Sunday’s walk will be even more successful as the masses ramble from Seacombe to Thurstaston Country Park.

They will walk through New Brighton, Leasowe, Meols, Hoylake, West Kirby and Caldy, finishing at Thurstaston Country Park.

One charity hoping to get a few more fundraisers before the big event is Wirral Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted (WSBPS) based at Ashville Lodge, Birkenhead.

The group is nearly halfway to its £140,000 target to build an extension.

Lynne Sedgwick, development and fundraising officer at the lodge, said: “Wirral and West Kirby Lions have already provided a lot of support for us this year along with Business for Breakfast who are joining together with our other fundraisers for the big walk.
