A NEW contractor has been appointed by Wirral Council to take over the uncompleted repair works to West Kirby Marine Lake.
The first phase of the work had finished and the lake was available for West Kirby Sailing Club to hold last weekend’s Wilson Trophy sailing event.
But last week it was revealed that Northwich UK, which was carrying out the work, was being wound up by its parent company, Pierse.
Wirral Council said it has still not received confirmation as to the trading status of the company from Pierse Contracting Limited.
They were not available for comment last night.
Just over a week ago, on Monday, April 28, under the terms of their contract, the council served a seven-day notice on Pierse Contracting Limited for abandoning the site without notice.
The authority said that, due to legal constraints, the council was unable to disclose this information at the time.
But yesterday Wirral Council confirmed that it has now appointed Jones Bros Ltd, based in North Wales, to complete the work.
