CHARITY volunteers are stepping out in this year’s Wirral Coastal Walk to give sick, disabled and needy young people an unforgettable holiday in Lourdes.
Christ the King HCG (Handicapped Children’s Group) has been taking children to the French town every Easter since 1983.
The youngsters who benefit include those suffering from physical and mental disabilities and others who had a tough start in life through no fault of their own. The children can be of any or no religious denomination.
Group leader Jane Coyne said: “We go to Lourdes because it is one of the few places in the world where the sick and less able are regarded as the most important people there.
“The whole place and experience is set up with them in mind. Our motto as a group is to always put the children first. This is in terms of safety and enjoyment which means we sing all hours of the day until our voices go, dance around and keep them entertained by any means necessary!”
The visits provide much-needed respite for parents and carers and a confidence boost for the children.
