Wallasey's Park Primary School ‘was torched’

A BLAZE at a school in Wallasey was probably started deliberately.

Three fire crews armed with breathing apparatus tackled the fire which spread to three classrooms at Park Primary School, in Woodstock Road, Wallasey.

Firefighters were called to the scene just after 8pm on Wednesday after smoke and flames were seen coming from the building, which is due to be demolished.

The school’s 250 pupils are currently having lessons at nearby Poulton Primary while the building is knocked down.

The crews from Birkenhead and Upton were supported by Merseyside Fire Service’s Incident Management Unit and Hazardous Materials Unit (HAZMAT) amid fears they could be exposed to asbestos in the building.
