MOTORCYCLISTS revved up their engines to raise cash for young people on Wirral.
A total of 10,000 bikers took part in the Wirral Egg Run on Sunday which took riders on a 20-mile cruise around the Wirral peninsula.
The egg run aims to raise cash and donates Easter Eggs to children in hospital and other places which look after sick youngsters. The route started from New Brighton and went through Moreton Cross, Hoylake, West Kirby, Heswall and Clatterbridge before finishing close to Junction 4 of the M53.
Bikers young and old took part in the event, many of whom dressed up especially for the occasion. Superman put in an appearance, but rather than flying through the air he decided to hitch a lift with someone dressed as a bunny rabbit. One rider added Viking’s horns to his helmet, while another dressed as a banana.
Wirral Egg Run chairman David Morrison said the number of bikers taking part was 3,000 up on last year. He added: “The event was an amazing success and I was really pleased that so many bikers took part.
“Matt Rose, one of the organisers of the previous event, died just after Christmas and he would have been so proud of what happened today.”
Organisers are still counting all the money bikers raised from last Sunday’s event, which last year managed to which will go towards helping sick children across Wirral.
Last year the bikers raise £25,000.
Organisations that have benefited in the past include the Jellybean Appeal, at Arrowe Park Hospital, which aims to improve services for children being treated at Arrowe Park Hospital.
Key wishes for the Jellybean Appeal include extra equipment for premature and sick newborn babies.
They also want to provide rooms for ther families of sick children being treated at the hospital.
