Paul Waring
BIRKENHEAD golfer Paul Waring lies in sixth place after the first round of the Madeira Islands Open BPI Portugal despite two bogeys in his final eight holes.
Starting on the 10th, Paul reached the halfway point of his round on three-under and looked in great shape when he birdied the 11th to go four under.
But the Bromborough Golf Club member immediately dropped a shot when he bogeyed the par-four second, his 11th hole, and he dropped an other shot on the par-three seventh.
Paul, 24, is three shots behind Sweden’s former Ryder Cup star Joakim Haeggman, who is joint leader with Irishman Damien McGrane.
Spaniard Carl Suneson, Argentinian Estanislao Goya and Englishman Andrew Butterfield are joint third on three under.
