Hoylake Library’s celebration of World Book Day

CROWDS of reading enthusiasts gathered outside Hoylake Library last Thursday to celebrate World Book Day.

Children and adults decided to stop protesting about library closures for the day and instead focus on the joy of reading.

Darth Vader, Little Red Riding Hood and Dick Whittington came along for the party and read books to around 40 children from Holy Trinity Primary School, Hoylake.

The pupils came dressed as their favourite fictional characters, borrowed books and took part in projects.

Helen McCall, of Hoylake Library Action Group, said: “It actually started to snow just as we began our celebrations but it didn’t put people off.

“We have had so many protests lately that we thought it was important to celebrate the magic of reading and show how it fires the imagination.”

Work from Keats and Terence Blacker’s In Control Ms Wiz? were read aloud on the day.
