A FOUR-storey scaffolding rig supporting a derelict shop collapsed across a major road.
The metal scaffold fell last Thursday at the old Co-op in Cleveland Street, Birkenhead, casting bricks, metal scaffolding and concrete on a busy road.
No one was hurt and people at the scene believed some roofing collapsed, bringing the support structure down.
A council spokesman said: “We went on site to work with the building owner to stabilise the property and ensure the safety of the public.”
Demolition work has been taking place since a severe fire last year weakened the building’s structure.
