A TOP Rugby Union player teamed up with the new community-based NHS Health Challenge Wirral to promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Sale Sharks prop Rob O’Donnell also joined in with the initiative in Liscard to highlight the many free health and well-being activities available.
The team, based at the YMCA in Manor Road, carried out free health checks to visitors to Cherry Tree Shopping Centre as well as offering advice and an invitation for a one-to-one appointment with a health trainer.
The team also consulted with the local community about the type of health related activities they would like in their area.
Team leader Gemma Heaps said “This has been a great opportunity for the team to meet and consult with the local community about issues relating to their health and ways we can work together to improve things.”
Rob, who is also part of the prestigious Liverpool John Moores University Sports Scholarship scheme, said: “Eating healthy and exercising is a key factor in not only becoming an elite athlete but also staying fit and healthy on a day to basis. It’s important that the community sign up and make a change through the Health Challenge Wirral team.”
Health Challenge Wirral also has teams in Rock Ferry, Tranmere, North Birkenhead, Central Birkenhead, Bidston, Beechwood, Leasowe, Woodchurch and East Moreton.
Anyone who would like further advice on activities in Wallasey or would like to make a one-to-one appointment can call the team on 201 4162.
