Birkenhead Sixth Form College teachers pit their wits on TV this week in ‘Battle of the Brains’

DOES Birkenhead Sixth Form College have the brainiest teachers in Wirral?

A team of six tutors – plus one former student – will be putting their little grey cells to the test this week on BBC quiz programme “Battle of the Brains”.

Each edition will see two teams of seven compete over two rounds in a game of intellect, nerve, strategy and skill.

The Birkenhead team is made up of Dave Hurst, who teaches maths, English teachers Joe Peters and John Thorpe, Alan Beddow (politics), Gwynn Lawrence (physics and key skills) and Gill Perry (religious studies).

The line-up is completed by Alan’s son Alistair Beddow, who is studying English at Durham University.

The programme was recorded in Manchester just before Christmas but the result is a closely-guarded secret.
