THE award-winning Wirral Farmers’ Market returns for the first time in the New Year this Saturday (January 10).
If you’re feeling the cold, the credit crunch and looking for something healthy and comforting, then the market from 9am to 1pm at New Ferry Village Hall has it all.
There is fresh fish and seafood, from High Seas Seafoods, as well as fruit and vegetables, some just picked from the ground and so packed with healthy vitamins. Check out John Jones’ and Freda and Bill Neale’s stalls.
Healthy and nourishing soups will get you through the cold winter months and they can be frozen so you can stock up.
Buffalo, from North Wales Buffalo, and ostrich, from Weatheroak Ostrich Farm, are both lower in cholesterol than beef and lower in fat, and taste delicious.
Other news from the market is that visitors to the December market, who bought a raffle ticket for the chance to win great food prizes, helped to raise around £300 for the Ark homeless shelter in Birkenhead and New Ferry charity Stick ‘n’ Step.
There is a large variety of food on offer at the market including award-winning cheeses, sausages, Welsh Black Beef, lamb, free range chickens, smoked food, fresh fish, free range eggs, local honey, pies, plants, cakes and soups along with plenty of seasonal vegetables.
Wirral Farmers’ Market is run by a group of volunteers, who live and work in the area and organise the market in their spare time.
