Lights switch on
WIRRAL fundraiser David Thomas is to perform the switch-on ceremony at tomorrow’s Light Up a Life ceremony in Birkenhead for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
David, of Heswall, whose parents both died from lung cancer, raised more than £2,500 last year from people sponsoring his marathon run.
He said: “I am honoured that the foundation has selected me to perform this year’s switch-on ceremony.
“I aim to raise awareness again this year and raise the same, if not mor,e in sponsor money by running again next year.”
The lights will be lit in St Werburgh’s Square, Birkenhead, tomorrow (Thursday) at 6.30pm.
Supporters can remember their loved ones through the dedication of a light.
Father Hartley, of St Werburgh’s Church will be conducting a remembrance service and the Salvation Army will be leading the singing of Christmas carols.
The foundation’s Jenny Lloyd said: “We have received a good response so far but we’re always looking to raise more money for our important work in defeating lung cancer.
“I would therefore urge anyone to support this appeal by dedicating a light to someone they will miss at Christmas”.
