SHOPPERS can benefit from free parking after 3pm every Thursday in the run-up to Christmas in car parks in Birkenhead, Liscard, Heswall and West Kirby.
The “free after 3” parking initiative will start tomorrow and run every Thursday until Christmas.
The scheme will also allow free all-day parking on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day to attract shoppers to the Christmas and New Year sales.
Wirral Council made the decision to offer “free after 3” car parking in light of the VAT cuts from 17.5%t to 15%.
Council leader Steve Foulkes, Leader of Wirral Council, said: “The new parking initiative is designed to help shoppers and traders experiencing difficulties as a result of the credit crunch over the festive period.”
Car parks participating in the scheme in Birkenhead are at Europa Square, Cook Street, Wilbraham Street, Oliver Street, Europa Pool, Hamilton Building, Exmouth Street, Atherton Street and Barton Street.
Rocky Lane, Pye Road, Mount Avenue and Puddydale car parks in Heswall are involved, as are the Concourse car park and Dee Lane car park in West Kirby. Participating car parks in Liscard are Seaview Road, Liscard Village, Liscard Crescent and Cherry Tree shopping centre.
