A MAN has admitted attempting to murder his mother in a hammer attack.
Andrew Ellis, 39, attacked his mother, Elizabeth Ellis, with the weapon as she slept in her bed on August 11.
His barrister, Keith Sutton, told Liverpool Crown Court that Ellis had formed the intention to kill and started striking her and pushing a pillow over her head but then realised he could not go through with it and stopped.
Ellis, of Downing Close, Prenton, who appeared at court via video-link equipment from Walton jail, was further remanded in custody to await sentence on December 19.
Judge Henry Globe QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, told Ellis: “It is clear you have admitted an extremely serious offence and there must be a custodial sentence.”
He said that he would consider reports on Ellis and also a report about the effect of the attack on his mother, who is currently out of the country.
Deborah Gould, prosecuting, said that Arrowe Park Hospital had “mis-filed” the details about the victim’s injuries but efforts were being made to obtain the information from other sources.
Judge Globe said: “If they are lost, I want an explanation why they have been lost. I want a report from someone in a senior position at the hospital.”
