Wirral musicians aged 16-20 encouraged to compete for Charles Scarratt Music Award

A BOROUGH-wide music award has been launched at Birkenhead High School.

The Charles Scarratt Music Award is open to all Wirral musicians aged 16-20.

It was launched by Kay Scarratt in honour of her father to help fellow young musicians further their studies and careers in music.

Charles Scarratt died in 1979 after almost 60 years of music making.

He was a gifted pianist and founded the Birkenhead Choral Society, which he conducted for over 20 years.

The award is open to Wirral musicians who possess a minimum performance standard of grade seven, or equivalent.

The first competition will be on Saturday, February 7 during the annual Music Festival at Birkenhead High School Girls’ Day School Trust.

The entry fee is just £5 and application forms are now available. For more details, email i.nolan@ birkhs.gdst.net
