Musical magic from an ‘astounding’ group

QUALITY live music is coming to Thingwall on selected Friday evenings leading up to Christmas.

The events, run by Spinney Folk, will combine popular, funny and folk music at Thingwall Recreation Centre, Sparks Lane.

The venue, which has a 30-foot ceiling, stage and large windows will host the first live show fronted by international band Kerfuffle on November 14, at 7.30pm.

The four young musicians making up this group include Sam Sweeney, Hannah James, Jamie Roberts and Tom Sweeney.

Brian Lupton, organiser of the event, said: “I first saw them in Chester Festival in June and was absolutely blown away - they are an astounding group.”

Created almost seven years ago, Kerfuffle have played venues such as Towersey and Bromyard Festivals, played on Radio Three’s Late Junction and performed in the bar under the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Brian said: “Their music cannot be easily categorised as their vibrant arrangements draw on influences from across Europe, incorporating tunes, songs and dances.

“This show has a brilliant mix of fiddle, accordion and guitar – it is not to be missed by aspiring young musicians or people who want to hear quality live music.”

Another show fronted by Grant Baynham, a funny songwriter and talented guitarist who performed on the Ester Rantzen show That’s Life will be held on December 12 at 7.30pm.

Brian added: “Both these shows will be fun, entertaining, diverse and brilliant - people would be missing out if they didn’t come and join us.”
