POOLS of blood found near Hamilton Square station in Birkenhead came from an injured builder who was seeking assistance, Merseyside Police has confirmed.
A tarpaulin was placed around a phone boxin Bridge Street, just outside the busy station, last Wednesday afternoon after the gruesome discovery was reported to authorities.
Another cordon was set up around one of the bus shelters, facing the site of the former Woodside Hotel in Hamilton Street, after streaks of blood were found there.
At the time, there appeared to be no explanation for the blood’s appearance as no report of any kind of assault had been lodged.
But following investigations, it emerged a workman with a broken arm had suffered a burst blood clot before seeking assistance using the public phone box.
