Assault on CCTV

A BIRKENHEAD night club bouncer who was caught on CCTV punching a man he had just ejected has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Colin Nelson, who worked at The Latin Quarter club, admitted assaulting Stephen O’Connor causing actual bodily harm and was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment suspended for 12 months.

Nelson, 23, of Thistleton Avenue, Birkenhead, was also ordered by a Liverpool Crown Court judge to carry out 200 hours’ unpaid work.

Judge Bryn Holloway described it as an unprovoked assault involving gratuitous violence.

Gerald Baxter, defending, said that Nelson, Birkenhead, who has no previous convictions, had been a doorman for about five years but has lost his licence following the assault.
