Reading treats
SCHOOLCHILDREN from across Wirral were treated to readings from two of Merseyside’s leading writers – Frank Cottrell Boyce and Levi Tafari.
The event at Wallasey Town Hall on Wednesday was to celebrate the National Year of Reading and residents of all ages were invited to the event.
Sue Powell, head of Wirral Libraries, said: “The National Year of Reading has brought together many novel initiatives to promote reading. The aim of the day is to celebrate them in all their forms and to look at the impact of some of the innovative events on people’s lives.
“We aim to achieve better outcomes for local people through reading, family and community engagement and prove that reading really does connect.”
Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Adrian Jones, has literacy as one of the themes of his year in office.
He said: “Nothing can be more educationally important than literacy; it is central to all other intellectual development.”
