Films flood in for Wirral International Film Festival

MORE than 80 films have been submitted for viewing at Wirral International Film Festival, due to take place in the week leading up to November 29.

Organisers Alan Veste and Phil Bimpson say they are “amazed” at the response and called the quality of submissions “unbelievable”.

Venues are being confirmed and downstairs at Park Road East’s Queens Hotel will be transformed into a lounge cinema, with free entry to films being shown throughout the festival week.

The inaugural event will then culminate on Saturday November 29 at a larger venue, yet to be revealed, with awards handed out to the best productions across a broad sweep of genres.

Phil Bimpson told the News: “It’s amazing to see some of the stuff.

“The line between the standard of professional and amateur is very blurred.”

One submission, a film on racism from Woodlands School in Birkenhead “brought a little tear” to Phil’s eye.

Alan Veste called some of the work by teenage film-makers “wonderful”, adding they had also received some good music videos, feature films and short films covering everything from comedy to drama, as well as animation.

Full viewing schedules will be printed in Wirral News leading up to the week long event and our website, www.wirralnews.co.uk, will feature video excerpts from a selection of productions as the build up begins.

There is also an opportunity for sponsors to get involved, with award names and presentations up for grabs.

Those who may have struggled with deadlines are also invited to contact organisers for any special dispensation.
