THE closure of Feltree House care home in Beechwood has been brought forward to December.
Wirral Council originally planned to close the home, which offers respite and day care and has two permanent residents, in 2010.
It later changed the closure date to next summer – but councillors last week approved a plan to bring the date further forward to save £170,000 this financial year.
The council says it wants to help more people live at home and closing Feltree House will save the authority £505,000 a year.
Other social service changes agreed at a meeting of Wirral Council’s cabinet on Thursday included axeing the policy of paying £25 holiday grants to people with disabilities.
The council pays out approximately £4,000 in the grants each year.
Director of Social Services John Webb said: “My suggestion is that paying small holiday grants is not appropriate for modern social services.”
