Police unit at Birkenhead crime hotspot

WIRRAL’S community mobile police station has been deployed to Birkenhead to tackle anti-social behaviour.

The unit, a partnership between Wirral Council and Merseyside Police, managed by Wirral Anti-Social Behaviour Team, is in Hoylake Road opposite Gautby Road.

This part of the Birkenhead area, including Bidston Rise, has been identified as a hotspot for anti-social and criminal behaviour and the unit will be a central hub for tackling the problem.

Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Harrison said: “This valuable community resource gives us the facility of an additional drop-in site in the Laird Street neighbourhood.

“Come to meet us and help us to reduce the problems of your area.”

The station, a converted shipping container, was introduced in Wirral in January 2006 and is equipped with a public inquiry desk and literature for community safety, support groups and local activities.

It also contains an area that can be used for meetings, workshops and group sessions.

Community development officer Laura Newman added: “The Anti-Social Behaviour Team, police and our partners are here to help residents stand up against the anti-social minority and reclaim their community.”
