Chef gives Prenton Primary pupils a taste for healthy eating

A FUN food chef is putting the pleasure factor into healthy eating for hundreds of children in Wirral.

Two classes at Prenton Primary sampled Pat Oakes’ “theatre of cooking” in their classroom with a healthy, interactive, educational cookery demonstration.

The youngsters prepared and sampled fresh pizza – happily getting their hands sticky preparing the dough for the pizza base – as well as strawberry milk shakes and fruit yoghurt pots.

Headteacher Sheila Cairns said: “Teaching children about healthy eating is part of being a healthy school. It is important that children know how food they love to eat, such as pizza, is made and to get them interested in cooking at a very early age.”

Cildren as young as three have been involved preparing their own meals.These have ranged from fresh sustainable fish fingers, freshly made mozzarella burgers to dough for pizza and pasta and fresh milk shakes.
