Car smashes into Birkenhead off-licence after police chase

A POLICE chase ended when a Ford Mondeo smashed into News and Booze in Borough Road, Birkenhead, over the weekend.

The black Mondeo had been spotted driving erratically at around 2pm on Saturday but, when officers attempted to pull the driver over, he raced away.

A pursuit ensued, with the police helicopter brought in to assist. As the chase continued, the Mondeo collided with a Mercedes A-Class at the junction of Merlin Road and North Road.

The occupants of the Mercedes were taken to Arrowe Park Hospital with slight injuries. The driver of the Mondeo continued, despite the smash, but stopped when he mounted the kerb and collided head on with News and Booze.

Merseyside Police arrested one man on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owners’ consent.
