WIRRAL Society of the Blind and Partially Sighted launched its buy a brick appeal this week to fund an extension at Ashville Lodge, Birkenhead.
Birkenhead’s Paul McCartney tribute artist Neil Tudor kick-started the campaign by buying the first brick for £2.50.
Those who buy a brick will have their name etched into the £140,000 extension which will provide two more rooms for the lodge.
Development manager Lynne Sedgewick said: “We cater for all age groups and levels but need to improve facilities so we can remove any barriers.
“We average about 100 people a week but we will be able to take even more people when the building work is finished.”
Since gaining planning permission at the beginning of the year, the centre has raised £50,000.
