WIRRAL’S Voirrey Embroidery celebrates its 25th anniversary this year - and customers have been celebrating by contributing to one of the biggest and most varied exhibitions of their work.
The annual customers’ exhibition at the centre at Brimstage Hall encompasses a multitude of ideas and techniques covering all aspects of embroidery, tapestry, knitting, patchwork and quilting.
There are exquisite dolls and bags, quilts and blankets, textile art and cross stitch pictures, crochet work and goldwork, stumpwork and beadwork, knitted garments – even huge Christmas stockings.
Voirrey Branthwaite, founder of Voirrey Embroidery, said: “This impressive exhibition reflects the talent, the very high standards and, above all, the skills of our customers and is an inspiring tribute to the centre on our 25th anniversary.”
Voirrey Embroidery was founded in 12th century Brimstage Hall in September 1983. Following six months at the Liverpool International Garden Festival in 1984, it expanded into old farm buildings in the courtyard, becoming one of the finest and largest embroidery centres in Britain.
It is now a major tourism attraction and a mecca for needleworkers from far and wide.
The customers’ exhibition is at the Voirrey Embroidery Centre, Brimstage Hall, Brimstage, until Saturday, August 30. The centre is open Monday-Saturday from 10am-5pm,and on Sundays from 11-5pm. Admission is free.
