DAVID Cameron took to the stage at Weatherhead School, Wallasey, on Thursday in front of 400 voters.

During a “power hour” public meeting, the Conservative leader handled a series of quick-fire questions from the floor in the evening’s Question Time format.

Looking at ease in front of the Tory-dominated audience, Cameron addressed issues ranging from support for parents of disabled children, safeguarding Britain’s fuel supplies and criminal sentencing.

But the question everyone wanted to know was - was he “going to disband his favourite think tank?”

His response of “it wasn’t me guv’nor!” got a laugh, as Cameron distanced himself from the report’s Lib Dem writer, saying “it’s a rubbish idea.”

Mr Cameron said: “There’s a resurgence taking place; we can see it here and in places like Manchester and Leeds.”

But when challenged, his affable approach disappeared and instead the commanding Cameron of Prime Minister’s questions took on opponents.

There were gasps from the audience as an anti-hunt protester accused Cameron of barbarity for his pro-hunting stance.

In an unapologetic response, he said: “In a civilised society we have to respect each other’s rights to take part in a pastime which has gone on in our country for centuries.”
