WOODCHURCH library is basking in the great outdoors this summer by launching Wirral’s first reading garden.
The garden is one of a series of projects launched during National Year of Reading designed to inspire and encourage outdoor reading within the community.
The Woodchurch garden is situated at the front of the library in Ganneys Meadow Road and was designed by residents together with library staff, LA21, Woodchurch Neighbourhood Management and local business Star Designs.
In the Storytellers’ Garden there are ample places for people to sit and read in the fresh air surrounded by plants, herbs and reading-related decorations. There is also a special storyteller’s chair adjacent to the entrance to the Ganney Meadows Early Years’ Centre which is designed for someone to sit and read to groups of young people.
Librarian Gwen Wale said: “We decided to call it the Storytellers’ Garden because it is open to everyone in the community – and everyone is a storyteller.
“We’ve only been open a couple of weeks but it is already very popular.”
