Man dies crossing railway line in Birkenhead

A MAN died after crossing the railway near Birkenhead North station on Tuesday night.

Services to New Brighton and West Kirby were halted after the body of the man, in his 30s, was discovered on the tracks near the station at 8.30pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is thought he was electrocuted while crossing the tracks. An investigation is now under way by British Transport Police.

Rail services were resumed shortly after 10pm.
