YOUNG footballers who brought sport to the streets of Seacombe have been rewarded.
A Celebration of Achievement night, hosted by Wirral Anti-Social Behaviour Team, saw 31 young people from Seacombe, who have just completed Sport Leadership programmes, receive their awards. In addition, two shields were presented in memory of late Seacombe resident Sheila Jordan.
The presentations were made by Mayor Adrian Jones.
Young people aged between eight and 19 took part in three courses, each lasting eight weeks. The courses, which have been run by an organisation called Play Like Brazil for the past two years, were staged at the Soccer Dome, Seacombe.
Caroline Laing, manager of the Anti-Social Behaviour Team, said: “Football is proving very successful as a diversionary activity in the Seacombe area and has helped reduce anti-social behaviour.”
The presentation of the shields was in honour of Sheila Jordan, a local resident who was instrumental in developing activities for local young people, and who died last Christmas.
The Sheila Jordan Respect Champion Shields were presented to Jeffrey Beardsmore and his partner Keeley Regan for their commitment to their community and to 11-year-old Chanice Sumner.
