Hoylake centenarian asks for donations to Hoylake Lifeboat to mark her special birthday

A MILESTONE birthday has been recognised by a Hoylake centenarian - with a donation to the Hoylake Lifeboat.

Gladys (Nan) Clements, whose father was a crew member of Hoylake Lifeboat in the early 1900s, presented a cheque to RNLI coxswain Dave Whiteley.

She decided she did not want presents or gifts for her 100th birthday and informed her family and friends worldwide to send donations for the Hoylake Lifeboat Station and Boat appeal.

Between them all, they raised £300.

Dave Whiteley said: “It was an amazing and extraordinary donation from such a generous and remarkable person.

“At 100 years old, Gladys’ fundraising efforts are all the more impressive and, by helping us toward our on going appeal for a new boathouse and boat, we can only express our immense gratitude to her.”
