Bromborough dad wins TV’s Weakest Link
IAN Vaughan stepped up in his blue swede shoes, faced the ire of Anne Robinson -– and walked away with £1,800 to spend on a Teddy Boy suit.
The Bromborough father-of-four was the winning contestant on last night’s edition of long-running BBC quiz show, The Weakest Link.
He said: “It was fantastic but I was so nervous when I was doing it.
“It was very, very nerve-wracking and I can’t remember half of what was going on because I was so busy concentrating.
“Then suddenly, I was in the final and I had no idea how my opponent was doing until they stopped the clock and said ‘Ian Vaughan you are the strongest link’.”
Ian, 46, originally applied in April last year and didn’t hear anything for 12 months, until a call came through inviting him to attend an audition in Liverpool.
Before long, he was being whisked down to a London hotel then standing 12ft away from the formidable presenter Anne Robinson.
David’s profession certainly gave her plenty of ammunition.
He said: “We had quite an interesting chat about my job, because I make wet wipes.
“She asked me if we had a load of babies’ bums in the factory to test the product on.
“She had my full history as well, so she knew that when I joined the company I started off making feminine hygiene products.”
Adding fuel to Anne’s satirical fire was a fellow contestant employed in the complaints department of a cosmetic surgery firm.
But despite gently poking fun at him, Ian said: “It was well worth doing and she’s not as bad as people think. You’ve just got to get on with it.”
Which is exactly what he did, winning the show and walking off with £1,840 that was promptly spent on an item he’s desired since his youth.
Ian added: “I’ve always been a big fan of rock ‘n’ roll but could never afford the clothes, so I’m treating myself to a Teddy Boy suit.
“That’s in the tailors now and I’m really looking forward to getting it on.”
