Pupils from Stanley School, Thingwall, present commemorative mug to Stephen Hesford MP

PUPILS at Stanley School have designed commemorative mugs to mark the school’s 25th year in Thingwall.

Although the special school has been in existence since 1971, it moved to its present site on Pensby Road in 1983.

Before 1971 pupils with severe learning difficulties did not attend school - today Stanley School covers the full range of National Curriculum subjects and Ofsted inspectors say pupils are making “outstanding” progress.

Wirral West MP Stephen Hesford recently visited the school and was presented with one of the mugs at a special assembly.

Headteacher Tony Newman said: “We are very proud to recognise this landmark and the anniversary mug is a small token we are giving to people who have supported us over the years. The MP is a regular visitor who has always shown an interest in the progress of our pupils.”

Mr Hesford said: “Congratulations to Mr Newman and all the staff, pupils and parents of Stanley School on their 25th anniversary. All of their hard work and dedication has made Stanley the success story it undoubtedly is and long may that success continue.”
